The Amman Plan is a pragmatic
planning
program in which
six phases have been completed. They include
the Interim Growth Strategy for High-Density Mixed-Use Areas,
Corridors Intensification Strategy,
Industrial Lands Policy,
Rural Residential Policy,
Airport Corridor Plan,
and
Metropolitan
Growth
Strategy
(MGP). As planning in each phase is completed, development commences. For example, the high-density mixed-use buildings that were planned for the first phase are now proceeding through development review, and a number are already nearing construction.

The MGP presents an answer to the fundamental questions of “where Amman will grow and how”. The MGP is a strategic response that offers a preferred direction concerning urban growth, protection of cultural heritage, environment and natural resources, and provision of infrastructure and transportation services.

Amman Plan is a participatory planning initiative. For
the Plan to be effective, it must capture the imagination of Amman’s citizens. Working in consultation with a broad cross-section of stakeholders, including city council members, government officials, city residents, business community, civil society, as well professionals. The Plan started with
a
link and aspiration document where hundreds of stakeholders were engaged in a discussion to visualize what we aspire Amman to be.
